00:04:44.000 --> 00:04:54.000
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm so happy to be here. Great to see you all.

00:04:54.000 --> 00:04:55.000
Okay.

00:04:55.000 --> 00:04:56.000
There you go, here you are with us. Yeah.

00:04:56.000 --> 00:05:00.000
There you go. Oh, I love the look and blog talk radio. Hey! My goodness

00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:10.000
That was like the precursor to the, the, the weekly events that we have the Sunday Summit shares, I believe.

00:05:10.000 --> 00:05:11.000
That's great.

00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:23.000
That is correct, sweet. We did that every Sunday night interviewing and bringing up topics of concern but Let's get right back to you, Clara.

00:05:23.000 --> 00:05:24.000
Yeah, absolutely.

00:05:24.000 --> 00:05:35.000
So. What was the first? st interaction the 1st you know what got you to the summon what what what brought you to this international black summit?

00:05:35.000 --> 00:05:47.000
Wow, there were A couple of things. So I have my first.st So each year actually in 1,993 in Oakland, California.

00:05:47.000 --> 00:05:51.000
And at that time, which is not in my bio, I was doing acting above things.

00:05:51.000 --> 00:05:53.000
Oh wow.

00:05:53.000 --> 00:06:00.000
Yeah, and I was doing a lot of projects at the Open Ensemble Theater. And I saw.

00:06:00.000 --> 00:06:08.000
A flyer there for summer share. And then I got another one from Kathy Andrews who gave me.

00:06:08.000 --> 00:06:14.000
A flyer for the summit shares and Susan Shelton invited me to the summit share. So I was like, what's this?

00:06:14.000 --> 00:06:28.000
You know, international black summit thing, right? And. The and it wasn't just a fire like on the flyer was the declaration.

00:06:28.000 --> 00:06:41.000
Of the International Black Summit. And I was so moved and drawn to it. I was like this something that I really really want to check out and if I could, I'd like to.

00:06:41.000 --> 00:06:46.000
To share the declaration because I think it's very powerful. If that's okay with you guys.

00:06:46.000 --> 00:06:47.000
I think that's great. We should be able to pick bring that up on screen. Glenn, do you have that?

00:06:47.000 --> 00:06:51.000
Or I can share it.

00:06:51.000 --> 00:06:55.000
I do, I do, I do.

00:06:55.000 --> 00:07:07.000
So it's the declaration of the International Black Senate. We declare ourselves our community. And all communities.

00:07:07.000 --> 00:07:18.000
Hold and complete. There is nothing to do except be. We assert that we are responsible for generating community.

00:07:18.000 --> 00:07:30.000
As possibility and distinction. We listen for and grant being to the possibility. And creation of unpredictable results.

00:07:30.000 --> 00:07:40.000
Our conversation of. About and for those of African descent. Is one of power. Self-generation.

00:07:40.000 --> 00:07:54.000
Abundance, responsibility. Unity and integrity. With the possibility of being. We stand for the expression of our spirituality.

00:07:54.000 --> 00:08:04.000
Ending the murders of our men. Our women and our children. Building economies responsible for funding our community.

00:08:04.000 --> 00:08:18.000
Maintaining wellness of being in our bodies. Providing human services. Establishing nurturing relationships. Altering the conversation of who we are in the media.

00:08:18.000 --> 00:08:32.000
Empowering our youth. We declare that our community manifests itself in the world. As a contribution in the transformation of the universe.

00:08:32.000 --> 00:08:38.000
Atlanta, Georgia, October 7.th 1991. And that blew me away.

00:08:38.000 --> 00:08:50.000
Like. It spoke to so many things that are important to me. And you know, I'm a person of spirituality.

00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:55.000
I'm a person of unity. I'm about establishing things that are nurturing.

00:08:55.000 --> 00:09:03.000
I'm totally about changing the conversation of who we are in the media and the conversation of who we talk about ourselves with each other.

00:09:03.000 --> 00:09:10.000
So it was just. When I saw the declaration, I'm like, I have to go and check this thing out.

00:09:10.000 --> 00:09:40.000
And so it was in. What was it? 1998 actually, when I went to Atlanta for my 1st summit and then I didn't make the ones that were out of the country, but I think the next one that was in state was in 2,000 in Philadelphia where I met my husband Edwin Black Live to Von and we got married in 2,001.

00:09:40.000 --> 00:09:44.000
A year later, which that's a whole nother story. And we had a 12 year run of not missing a summit until he passed.

00:09:44.000 --> 00:09:56.000
In 2,012. And we had just come back from the Birmingham Alabama Summit.

00:09:56.000 --> 00:10:03.000
And then we had gone to his family. Reunion in Virginia. And then. All hit broke loose.

00:10:03.000 --> 00:10:12.000
With his transition, it really kind of sent me into a tailspin. So I went into a hiatus for a while.

00:10:12.000 --> 00:10:22.000
But got back in 2015 in Atlanta. Ferguson and 2016 DC it meant Detroit.

00:10:22.000 --> 00:10:29.000
But one of the things I just wanna thank the summit family because it's summit family showed up.

00:10:29.000 --> 00:10:41.000
At Edwin's funeral. And we also had the declaration shared, at that occasion and and when I Think about the summit.

00:10:41.000 --> 00:10:52.000
I just think about family because it really expanded my family to an international family because people came from Canada, people came.

00:10:52.000 --> 00:10:57.000
From Africa, from Jamaica, from all over the United States. To be with us in that moment.

00:10:57.000 --> 00:11:09.000
I just want to say I love you guys and I appreciate you. For that and one of the things that

00:11:09.000 --> 00:11:19.000
It's really pressing and the energy of the summit that continues to draw me is just that sense of community in that sense of family and that sense of.

00:11:19.000 --> 00:11:28.000
Total engagement and belonging. That is generated in the summit events and outside of the summit events.

00:11:28.000 --> 00:11:37.000
So yeah, I know that's a long answer to a short question, but I think the energy of the summit is very powerful.

00:11:37.000 --> 00:11:41.000
And the energy of the declaration. Yeah.

00:11:41.000 --> 00:11:58.000
You know, that was a long and for me, engaging answer to that 1st question because there were things in that answer that I didn't know about you.

00:11:58.000 --> 00:11:59.000
I know, right?

00:11:59.000 --> 00:12:13.000
And that I would never have guessed. That you were acting at that time? I had no idea, you know, it's interesting how how we can get to know each other through the International Black Summit or anywhere in life and as human beings we all have You know, we all have layers and layers.

00:12:13.000 --> 00:12:14.000
Yeah.

00:12:14.000 --> 00:12:30.000
And so just thank you for sharing another layer of who you are with us tonight. I appreciate that.

00:12:30.000 --> 00:12:31.000
Oh.

00:12:31.000 --> 00:12:32.000
Okay.

00:12:32.000 --> 00:12:34.000
Yes, I've been acting since. Wow. I want to say junior high school. Yeah, yeah, I was in a group called the Black Actors Company.

00:12:34.000 --> 00:12:42.000
Yeah. Yeah.

00:12:42.000 --> 00:12:45.000
Yeah.

00:12:45.000 --> 00:12:46.000
And.

00:12:46.000 --> 00:12:49.000
So you were an actor. You were in finance. You were you've been in real estate I mean, just picking all of these different aspects.

00:12:49.000 --> 00:12:50.000
Good.

00:12:50.000 --> 00:13:00.000
Of who you are. That's great. So, you know, one of the reasons why we decided to do the podcast was really to just engage with.

00:13:00.000 --> 00:13:12.000
Current and past facilitators and participants in the international black summit just to get a sense of how people have used the summit distinctions.

00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:13.000
Hmm.

00:13:13.000 --> 00:13:19.000
And the summit tools over the years in their lives, you know, in their families, in their communities.

00:13:19.000 --> 00:13:27.000
You know, I know how I have used those tools and distinctions to, create my life in a way that really has been empowering for me.

00:13:27.000 --> 00:13:37.000
And so I'm just always interested to hear. How has the, how has being a part of the summit and learning these tools?

00:13:37.000 --> 00:13:41.000
Shifted you and shifted your life.

00:13:41.000 --> 00:13:49.000
So a couple of things, one I've always had a worldview. Right. At a very young age.

00:13:49.000 --> 00:14:00.000
I think And I like, I don't even remember how that was, so. I had to be maybe around 6 or 7 somewhere around there and my dad asked me what.

00:14:00.000 --> 00:14:06.000
I had a choice for my birthday. I could go to Fairyland or I could go on a plane ride.

00:14:06.000 --> 00:14:11.000
And I said, I can go to Fairyland anytime. I want to go on the plane right.

00:14:11.000 --> 00:14:12.000
Yeah.

00:14:12.000 --> 00:14:25.000
And so went up in this plane and I got a chance to see. You know, the city. You know, and they, it was just all these grids, you know, the houses, everything got smaller.

00:14:25.000 --> 00:14:32.000
The higher up you would go and things, it was just a whole nother perspective and I got hooked on traveling.

00:14:32.000 --> 00:14:58.000
Like there's something more than what you know. There's something else out there, right? There's something else out there in the world and I started traveling, went to Europe.

00:14:58.000 --> 00:14:59.000
Which coup?

00:14:59.000 --> 00:15:04.000
With a friend one of my sorority sisters and we did all of the capitals of Europe and so then you know to different places I went to Africa in the middle of the coup and so The thing about The one in Nigeria.

00:15:04.000 --> 00:15:12.000
Yeah, in Nigeria, I think that was in 1981 somewhere around there, 81 82.

00:15:12.000 --> 00:15:17.000
Yeah, yeah. And they had held up my visa because the coup was going on. But I did get there eventually and, my friends couldn't come into the airport to get me.

00:15:17.000 --> 00:15:30.000
So. I had angels. I mean, this guy just came out of nowhere and just stood behind me.

00:15:30.000 --> 00:15:31.000
Well, I'm standing in line and I took my niece with me. She was 16 at the time.

00:15:31.000 --> 00:15:37.000
And,

00:15:37.000 --> 00:15:39.000
Oh nice.

00:15:39.000 --> 00:15:44.000
They just, yeah, they didn't mess with us. And then when we got to the luggage, another guy came up.

00:15:44.000 --> 00:15:52.000
He's like, I will help you, you know, with your and he stayed with me until I got with my friend and of course he wanted my friend to pay him.

00:15:52.000 --> 00:15:59.000
Which was fine and then you know. We went on about our business, but everywhere we went, we went in groups.

00:15:59.000 --> 00:16:07.000
Because they had Michele, what do you call those AK 47 machine guns? You know, they would stop you all the time on the road.

00:16:07.000 --> 00:16:16.000
So it was an interesting experience, but the the thing that called to me about the summit was it it had the title international in it.

00:16:16.000 --> 00:16:25.000
So it was a perspective that is a world perspective and I think a lot of times People are so confined to.

00:16:25.000 --> 00:16:36.000
Themselves, their neighborhood and their immediate community that the relationship to a larger society is lost. Right.

00:16:36.000 --> 00:16:43.000
They don't get the connection that. We have a whole world, there's a whole world out there.

00:16:43.000 --> 00:16:51.000
And we have relationship with that world. So I really like the term international. From that perspective. And then the other part.

00:16:51.000 --> 00:17:05.000
Is the family aspect. So once I got into the summit, just the immediate kinship that I felt with people in the connection that I felt with people that still exist.

00:17:05.000 --> 00:17:11.000
And I know I haven't seen you all in ages, but it's just like. You know, we talked yesterday.

00:17:11.000 --> 00:17:20.000
I still feel like. You know, wherever I go. In the world. I know people who will embrace me and who will take care of me.

00:17:20.000 --> 00:17:26.000
Right, that I'm covered, you know, through, this family that is the International Black Summit.

00:17:26.000 --> 00:17:36.000
And then the other way that is impacted me, the thing that I picked up were the distinctions.

00:17:36.000 --> 00:17:37.000
Hmm.

00:17:37.000 --> 00:17:50.000
So there are so many talk about layers. Thanks. There are so many distinctions in. The summit and I think it gives you at least it gave me an opportunity.

00:17:50.000 --> 00:18:10.000
To look at the world through a different set of lens, you know, to Really stop and think sometimes what is actually going on and how my viewing it And I think probably my favorite, one of my favorite distinctions is no out there, right?

00:18:10.000 --> 00:18:20.000
Like everything begins right here with me and how I see the world. So we can all be in the exact same room doing the exact same thing.

00:18:20.000 --> 00:18:36.000
And our perspective of but how we feel about it or how we engage with it. Is real from the perspective of what we think about it and how we see it, you know, so I can't see it for Glenn or for Grace or for anybody else, I can only see it for myself.

00:18:36.000 --> 00:18:45.000
And I also have to understand that everybody else's perspective is going to be different. You know, even though we're all in the same room experiencing the same thing.

00:18:45.000 --> 00:18:57.000
So what that did was it gave me a lot of grace with people. You know, to really. And 2 to understand.

00:18:57.000 --> 00:19:07.000
That their perspective and their worldview might be different than mine. And that's okay. Like there's the capability to hold it all.

00:19:07.000 --> 00:19:30.000
You know, there's the capability to hold it all and I think in one of the summits we were in a but conversation and people kept saying but but I'm like no it's and Doesn't have to be but but this but that is and like because all of it is true it's and and and this and that and this and that's all of it and we hold all of it.

00:19:30.000 --> 00:19:32.000
In our interactions with with people at least

00:19:32.000 --> 00:19:43.000
Is that the conversation? Sorry to cut you off, Clara. Is that the conversation where the where the DJ facilitator the music facilitator started playing Do in the butt.

00:19:43.000 --> 00:19:44.000
Do in the but

00:19:44.000 --> 00:19:47.000
Yes, yeah

00:19:47.000 --> 00:19:48.000
I'm definitely thrilly.

00:19:48.000 --> 00:19:49.000
During the conversation, the but but conversation.

00:19:49.000 --> 00:20:00.000
Yes. Okay. Yes. And it's funny because music is another distinction at the summit, like everything has value, you know, everything.

00:20:00.000 --> 00:20:09.000
Lens is stuff to understand, of who we are and why we do what we do and how we do what we do.

00:20:09.000 --> 00:20:13.000
Thank you. I really do love the summit. Yeah. And I think.

00:20:13.000 --> 00:20:22.000
For me with my clients. It really gives me perspective. Yeah, it really gives me perspective.

00:20:22.000 --> 00:20:32.000
I have this thing where I say, you know, everything. Is in its right place at its right time, right?

00:20:32.000 --> 00:20:42.000
And, and we call that in the summit alignment. And a lot of times people get so bent out of shape because things are not going a particular way or.

00:20:42.000 --> 00:20:50.000
You know, they want it this particular thing and it's not for them at this time. And I'm like the thing that's for you is there.

00:20:50.000 --> 00:20:55.000
It's their waiting. And when everything lines up.

00:20:55.000 --> 00:21:01.000
It'll be the right thing. At the right time. For the right person. You know, so there's nothing that anyone can take from you because what God has for you is for you.

00:21:01.000 --> 00:21:24.000
Like, you know, and then we have this capability also of creation. So the thing about the declaration that's so powerful you know, our words, you know, what we're speaking, what we're declaring, what we're sharing with people, our visions, our dreams.

00:21:24.000 --> 00:21:36.000
Are all part of that declaration and our speaking. And that we can generate, that's my other favorite distinction, self-generation, we can generate our lives.

00:21:36.000 --> 00:21:50.000
You know, we can generate our lives by really getting clear about. What our purpose is, what our vision is, what we want for ourselves, what we want for our lives, and we can declare that thing and it will show up.

00:21:50.000 --> 00:22:03.000
It will show up. So, yeah. Yeah, the summit is. I would say it's been an integral part of who I am as a person, how I do business.

00:22:03.000 --> 00:22:16.000
How I interact with people. How I interact in my relationships. And I don't think there is a day that goes by that I don't say some.

00:22:16.000 --> 00:22:22.000
Distinction or share a distinction with the people that I interact with. Like daily.

00:22:22.000 --> 00:22:31.000
Well, you know, Clara, you've got, in your bi, you talk about this business that you've created for yourself.

00:22:31.000 --> 00:22:44.000
I mean, it's It's and it's not just a business. But I mean, the different layers of it, the wellness, the real estate, the educational pieces.

00:22:44.000 --> 00:22:49.000
What is your what's your overall vision? What is it? That you're out to create.

00:22:49.000 --> 00:22:52.000
In the world.

00:22:52.000 --> 00:22:56.000
Thank you for asking that I was thinking the same thing, Glen. What is your vision, Claire?

00:22:56.000 --> 00:23:05.000
My vision is that my dreams and the dreams of others are actualized into reality. You know that I'm a conduit.

00:23:05.000 --> 00:23:07.000
And.

00:23:07.000 --> 00:23:14.000
I'm a conduit for that to happen. Yeah, from my dreams and the dreams of others to be actualized into reality.

00:23:14.000 --> 00:23:27.000
And so whether it's helping someone. Purchase the home that they've been dreaming of, whether it's assisting people with their health through.

00:23:27.000 --> 00:23:40.000
Plant based education in mules and diets, whether it's Just having a conversation with somebody about what they want to do, a young person or an older person.

00:23:40.000 --> 00:23:56.000
About what they want to do in life and what my experience, how I can, you know. Lighten their load by sharing that experience with them to help them go farther or helping to get where they want to go.

00:23:56.000 --> 00:24:12.000
It's part of that, you know. It's the podcast that I do every Friday where You know, it's to give people tools, information and tips, resources to help them be more financially fit, whether that's, you know.

00:24:12.000 --> 00:24:15.000
Intellectual wealth or financial wealth. And right now we're doing author series, so I'm interviewing authors.

00:24:15.000 --> 00:24:27.000
It's all of those things to really help people see that everything that you need is available, right?

00:24:27.000 --> 00:24:33.000
And if I can be a conduit to help you get to where you want to go. Then that's my purpose, right?

00:24:33.000 --> 00:24:41.000
That's my purpose in life. That's my vision. Yeah.

00:24:41.000 --> 00:24:42.000
Thank you.

00:24:42.000 --> 00:24:47.000
That is a beautiful. Vision. Like I'm very like beautiful vision and I really hear aspects of the distinction of the declaration rather.

00:24:47.000 --> 00:24:54.000
You know, like I hear the, you know, looking at the declaration. Glenn, can we bring up the declaration again just briefly?

00:24:54.000 --> 00:25:03.000
Absolutely.

00:25:03.000 --> 00:25:04.000
Hmm.

00:25:04.000 --> 00:25:06.000
Thank you. Just looking at that the paragraph in the declaration that starts with we stand. And looking at your bio.

00:25:06.000 --> 00:25:21.000
And listening to what you just shared. And looking at this paragraph we stand. So we stand for the expression of our spirituality and I see in your bio the work that you've done with your Christian community and your church.

00:25:21.000 --> 00:25:35.000
And the way that you support there. And building economies responsible for funding our community. And and the the podcast that you're doing to really help people with their financial growth and financial literacy.

00:25:35.000 --> 00:25:43.000
Maintaining wellness of being in our bodies and the aspect of your of your business, the lines of business that's around health and wellness.

00:25:43.000 --> 00:25:57.000
You know all of these things there's another aspect here that the real estate falls in there too right Just really looking at and other aspects that I'm probably not even touching on So.

00:25:57.000 --> 00:26:12.000
So what do you see? Since we're here in the declaration that most calls to you or that you feel is is most connected to the vision you just shared with us.

00:26:12.000 --> 00:26:22.000
The building economy is responsible for funding our community and maintaining wellness of being in our bodies like.

00:26:22.000 --> 00:26:28.000
Those things. Really call to me because.

00:26:28.000 --> 00:26:33.000
You mentioned, when I was the director of the Victoria's Business Professional. So.

00:26:33.000 --> 00:26:40.000
There are a lot of entrepreneurs at our church. And so I did a lot of programming for them.

00:26:40.000 --> 00:26:47.000
Not only for the entrepreneurs, but the people who were. Working for other people as well, just workshops to help empower them to.

00:26:47.000 --> 00:26:58.000
To go higher in their jobs and or do things to support them in their businesses. And. In that ministry.

00:26:58.000 --> 00:27:06.000
I think I was the 1st ministry at our church to be self funding. Because I believe that everything should pay for itself.

00:27:06.000 --> 00:27:15.000
Right, like God gives us the resources to be self-sufficient. You know, we can plant in the ground.

00:27:15.000 --> 00:27:18.000
And have food come up and we can eat. Right, it's you put this in.

00:27:18.000 --> 00:27:22.000
Right, we can probably stop sharing now, Glenn. Thanks.

00:27:22.000 --> 00:27:28.000
You put you put the seat in and it and it comes back up, you know, food comes up so you could have a community garden.

00:27:28.000 --> 00:27:40.000
You know, and share that with in the community so people can eat, right? You can't, I, I got a, an email today.

00:27:40.000 --> 00:27:48.000
Where the young sores were trying to go to. An event that's happening. In Honolulu, Hawaii.

00:27:48.000 --> 00:27:52.000
And my 1st thought that came up is. Where the event is coming up like in 30 days or something.

00:27:52.000 --> 00:28:01.000
It's like, why didn't they start on this sooner? Like what would have been a way for them to?

00:28:01.000 --> 00:28:13.000
Fund their participation. If this is something that you want. There's a way that you can achieve anything that you want and get the resources or generate the income to do what it is you want to do.

00:28:13.000 --> 00:28:21.000
Like everything is there. There's no reason. That anybody should be in lack, you know, who has.

00:28:21.000 --> 00:28:28.000
A mind and a creativity and the willingness and the desire. To make things. Happen to make things work.

00:28:28.000 --> 00:28:29.000
Hmm.

00:28:29.000 --> 00:28:34.000
So it's no, I guess it's no mistake that I ended up as a finance coordinator.

00:28:34.000 --> 00:28:35.000
That's right.

00:28:35.000 --> 00:28:41.000
So I don't, I don't know if you remember this. When we were in Brazil.

00:28:41.000 --> 00:28:45.000
Do you remember when we went to the bank?

00:28:45.000 --> 00:28:46.000
For that

00:28:46.000 --> 00:28:49.000
Yes. Yes, yes. One night. And the fruit bats were out, right?

00:28:49.000 --> 00:28:51.000
Remember that?

00:28:51.000 --> 00:28:57.000
Yes. Oh my god, it was hilarious. We had Glenn, Glenn was Glenn with my security.

00:28:57.000 --> 00:28:58.000
Okay.

00:28:58.000 --> 00:28:59.000
Hmm.

00:28:59.000 --> 00:29:07.000
We had all of the money we had collected for the summit in Brazil. And they were what? Over 300 people there.

00:29:07.000 --> 00:29:08.000
Yeah.

00:29:08.000 --> 00:29:16.000
It was 3 to 500 people. It was a lot of money. So we're on our way to the bank in Brazil and we were walking at some point.

00:29:16.000 --> 00:29:21.000
I don't know what are we walking? But it was it was just the most hilarious thing that I found.

00:29:21.000 --> 00:29:24.000
I'm like, they could just knock us and they don't know how much money we had.

00:29:24.000 --> 00:29:30.000
Like it was just crazy. It was crazy, but I'll never forget that experience.

00:29:30.000 --> 00:29:46.000
Well, you know, that's 1 of the things that I wanted folks to really include because Yes, you are definitely about business, but you're about fun as well.

00:29:46.000 --> 00:29:47.000
Okay.

00:29:47.000 --> 00:29:54.000
I mean, we've had some really great times together I'm, reminded of the event that you had.

00:29:54.000 --> 00:29:55.000
Okay.

00:29:55.000 --> 00:30:22.000
For black history that we came a few of us came to visit your event and to support you in your event and was this phenomenal author and she had merchants that were there that were selling all kinds of African items and you know clothing and and and the necklaces and different thing you know jewelry.

00:30:22.000 --> 00:30:43.000
And and so on and so forth. It really speaks to the livelihood that you are your You know, you're about business, but you're also about fun, having fun and enjoying life.

00:30:43.000 --> 00:30:44.000
10 min.

00:30:44.000 --> 00:30:51.000
The thing that comes up in the declaration for me nurturing relationships So, cause I There wasn't a moment that I didn't feel nurtured around you.

00:30:51.000 --> 00:31:18.000
Yeah, so that you know that you know that's also part of what I wanted to let folks know about You want to talk a little bit about blog talk radio and that experience because cause it's interesting because that actually connects to the whole acting thing which which I didn't put together till tonight.

00:31:18.000 --> 00:31:19.000
Okay, good.

00:31:19.000 --> 00:31:21.000
Wow, well I want to go back to the Black History Social for me, cause I, you know what I've done so many things I forget about it.

00:31:21.000 --> 00:31:22.000
Yes. Yes.

00:31:22.000 --> 00:31:38.000
I'm getting older. But the Black History Social was just that. It was it was, I had gotten tired of going to, on Martin Luther King Day, the I have a dream speeches, which is, you know, No shade, but.

00:31:38.000 --> 00:31:44.000
You know, people go, they hear the speech, you know, somebody recites something and then it's over.

00:31:44.000 --> 00:31:58.000
So I wanted something that was interactive that was fun and that was also a way for I wanted people if they knew absolutely nothing about Black history by the time that they left they would know some things.

00:31:58.000 --> 00:32:08.000
So myself and 2 of my others sisters and one gentleman. George, Stondelay and Trina, we all got together and we created.

00:32:08.000 --> 00:32:15.000
Of these games. You know, and we use like Jeopardy, we did name that tune.

00:32:15.000 --> 00:32:23.000
We did concentration and we handmade all of these games, right? We did the big boards like the size of the wall.

00:32:23.000 --> 00:32:33.000
At Jackland Square, we did. Something called African connection. And the purpose of African connection was for people to learn the continents.

00:32:33.000 --> 00:32:43.000
Excuse me, the countries in the continent of Africa. And so you can you got a country and you had to find your neighboring countries.

00:32:43.000 --> 00:32:44.000
Great idea.

00:32:44.000 --> 00:32:57.000
So people were going around. Trying to find their person, you know who's next to them and then when you found and you had to connect to them You had to hold on So at the end, like everybody's all entwined and tangled like Twister.

00:32:57.000 --> 00:32:58.000
Okay.

00:32:58.000 --> 00:33:02.000
It, it was a lot of, it was a lot of fun. So thank you for bringing that up because I have forgotten about that.

00:33:02.000 --> 00:33:11.000
And that was one of the ways that I got connected when I 1st came to New Jersey too with the community here because I didn't see no black people in Cherry Hill.

00:33:11.000 --> 00:33:12.000
Yeah.

00:33:12.000 --> 00:33:22.000
So I was like, where are the black people in? This one lady that I met at the library, Tanya Norwood, introduced me to the church that I go to now.

00:33:22.000 --> 00:33:31.000
She came up and spoke to me. And the Cheerhill Library was where I had the 1st Black History Social in, New Jersey.

00:33:31.000 --> 00:33:35.000
Yeah. So yeah, thank you. Yeah, I do like to have fun. I do like to have a good time.

00:33:35.000 --> 00:33:36.000
Okay.

00:33:36.000 --> 00:33:43.000
And I am about nurturing, nurturing people, I think. Most of the time I'm a pretty good listener.

00:33:43.000 --> 00:33:47.000
Yeah. Yeah. So block talk radio. Wow.

00:33:47.000 --> 00:34:01.000
I am a creative spirit, so I think that's the the backdrop of I creative side, you know, the acting side, the creative side.

00:34:01.000 --> 00:34:08.000
And Block Talk Radio, John Thomas, bless her heart and may she rest in heaven.

00:34:08.000 --> 00:34:17.000
I miss her. And it was me, her Henrietta. In Cheshire.

00:34:17.000 --> 00:34:18.000
And Jerry.

00:34:18.000 --> 00:34:24.000
Glenn. Wow. Jerry, oh god, I can't leave well, Jerry.

00:34:24.000 --> 00:34:28.000
That's right. Yes. MVP!

00:34:28.000 --> 00:34:34.000
Don't be free, yes. Yeah, we had a good time.

00:34:34.000 --> 00:34:43.000
So what was the what was the? Yeah, what was the vision or the purpose of the blog talk radio, the summit blog talk radio when it was?

00:34:43.000 --> 00:34:44.000
A thing.

00:34:44.000 --> 00:34:54.000
Do you? Was to bring the conversation of the summit. To the people. You know, to the public.

00:34:54.000 --> 00:35:05.000
Right, because we were feeling like. We it was it was our it was our personal.

00:35:05.000 --> 00:35:12.000
We were keeping the summit to ourselves. Right, so we had this really intricate family and we really wanted to get.

00:35:12.000 --> 00:35:21.000
The summit conversation out in the world in a different way. And we talked about. We talked about a little everything, Gland.

00:35:21.000 --> 00:35:22.000
Everything, everything. Oh my goodness.

00:35:22.000 --> 00:35:33.000
We talked about It's the summit, the distinctions, gardening. Jerry always talked about black men and black power.

00:35:33.000 --> 00:35:38.000
Yeah, consonant New Yorker. We talked about what was going on in the world, different topics.

00:35:38.000 --> 00:35:45.000
Yeah, we talked about. Go, Glenn. Yeah, we talk about everything.

00:35:45.000 --> 00:36:09.000
We talked about anything and I want to point to, Jerry. Who at the time was was not connected, you know, it kind of came in.

00:36:09.000 --> 00:36:10.000
Hey, the list there.

00:36:10.000 --> 00:36:17.000
And started facilitating with us. He wasn't a, it wasn't a trained facilitator, he trained himself, he just was happy to Yeah, yeah, he was a listener, but he was there every week and so we invited him to be part of it.

00:36:17.000 --> 00:36:28.000
And and he just you know he just loved the conversation and still lives in the conversation. By the way, he has now got his own show.

00:36:28.000 --> 00:36:29.000
Okay. Yeah.

00:36:29.000 --> 00:36:36.000
That he's doing, you know, so I mean, all of that has kind of come out of his.

00:36:36.000 --> 00:36:44.000
For his feeling comfortable enough to facilitate with us who were facilitators, which leads me to the next question.

00:36:44.000 --> 00:36:50.000
What was it like being a facilitator for the International Black Summit?

00:36:50.000 --> 00:36:51.000
Wow.

00:36:51.000 --> 00:36:56.000
And why did you decide to become to be to be trained as a facilitator?

00:36:56.000 --> 00:37:07.000
I think I've always been a facilitator. And I stepped into facilitation and International Black Summit.

00:37:07.000 --> 00:37:13.000
From the very first, st my very 1st summit. So you know how we get put into groups, small groups.

00:37:13.000 --> 00:37:19.000
And I, leadership has always been on my back. And, or not, I'm actually an introvert.

00:37:19.000 --> 00:37:29.000
People don't believe that, but I am. I find myself in front of people a lot and I can be a leader.

00:37:29.000 --> 00:37:38.000
But I really enjoy being behind the scenes and doing things behind the scenes. I like systems and and things working efficiently.

00:37:38.000 --> 00:37:50.000
And so that's how that's my level of facilitation. But, you know, I got to, you know, I got picked to speak for the group, you know, and I was like, oh god, so I'm facilitating the conversation in group.

00:37:50.000 --> 00:38:01.000
And, and what Glenn pointed to the part about being nurturing. I think a really big part of facilitation is being nurturing.

00:38:01.000 --> 00:38:07.000
You know that nurturing spirit in me is one of facilitation. It's facilitating.

00:38:07.000 --> 00:38:13.000
That everybody is taking care of. You know, I have a spirit to make sure that everybody is okay.

00:38:13.000 --> 00:38:41.000
I did a trip for, for my best friend and a group of friends. And you know I planned the trip made sure that everybody had everything that they need we had a place to stay we had food we had transportation like everything's taken care of you know I plan trips I probably could be an event coordinator right I did the best, you know, on the bus I made sure we had food, you know, we

00:38:41.000 --> 00:38:50.000
had beverages, we had, we had, we had interaction on the bus going down. You know, we got things that would engage people in connect people to one another.

00:38:50.000 --> 00:38:58.000
A lot of times people don't talk to people. They don't know. So I'd like to make it easy for people to connect to one another.

00:38:58.000 --> 00:39:02.000
So it's that's just part of my nature to take care of people and to make sure that people take care.

00:39:02.000 --> 00:39:20.000
When we did the business expo at my church. You know, we all the vendors were there, but I made sure that the vendors had food, you know, that they had food, cause they were out there all day food and water, that there were runners to make sure that the vendors were taking care of that.

00:39:20.000 --> 00:39:25.000
They had everything that they needed because they're serving the people who are coming to see them. So it's just my nurturing nature.

00:39:25.000 --> 00:39:31.000
Yeah, so that that's a part. But so the declaration really speaks to me in a lot of ways.

00:39:31.000 --> 00:39:33.000
It does. Yeah.

00:39:33.000 --> 00:39:42.000
I just want to say a little bit about facilitation for anybody who's listening to get a sense of what we mean by facilitation in the summit because there's different types of facilitation that we engage in.

00:39:42.000 --> 00:39:47.000
You know, I already talked a little bit earlier about the music facilitator at the annual summit event that there's somebody.

00:39:47.000 --> 00:39:49.000
Shout out to Conrad.

00:39:49.000 --> 00:39:57.000
Yeah, you know, so there's somebody who is facilitating the music, engaging the music, and we use music as part of the conversation.

00:39:57.000 --> 00:40:03.000
I mean, this is an, this is, this is the International Black Summit. There is music there.

00:40:03.000 --> 00:40:24.000
And, and so there's that there's, there's facilitating the actual conversation that's happening in the room in our events and so being either up at the front of the room, several facilitators engaging and facilitating the conversation at the back of the room facilitating and engaging the conversation.

00:40:24.000 --> 00:40:25.000
Yes.

00:40:25.000 --> 00:40:36.000
And you talked a lot, Clara, about facilitating the space. Like facilitating the actual physical space and the production of this of the space and ensuring that the people in the space are taken care of so that they can focus.

00:40:36.000 --> 00:40:46.000
On the conversation and not be distracted by. You know, by things that are that could be, you know, distracting in the space.

00:40:46.000 --> 00:40:47.000
So just yeah.

00:40:47.000 --> 00:40:55.000
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and also did the prerequisite for a while. So I never had desire to be in front of the room.

00:40:55.000 --> 00:41:16.000
And I hats off because The facilitators at the front of the room are genius. There is something about being able to allow people to be totally who they are to be totally transparent.

00:41:16.000 --> 00:41:24.000
To talk about. Whatever it is they're talking about. Cause you know what goes on in the stomach states in the summit.

00:41:24.000 --> 00:41:27.000
But, and to.

00:41:27.000 --> 00:41:37.000
To extract from that. Distinctions that allow people to get their life. Is genius to me. Is really, really genius to me.

00:41:37.000 --> 00:41:53.000
And so my hats off to the facilitators and in all of the spaces because I think everything, all of it is important.

00:41:53.000 --> 00:41:54.000
Okay. Yeah.

00:41:54.000 --> 00:42:06.000
There's that and again. You know, and the music facilitation and the back of the room facilitation and the space and the, non tangible things, you know, the systems, you know.

00:42:06.000 --> 00:42:07.000
Yeah.

00:42:07.000 --> 00:42:14.000
How things registration did that for a while just making sure that everything is taken care of all of the ands.

00:42:14.000 --> 00:42:20.000
And and it leads to how we facilitate our love. Guys, you know, we take that into business.

00:42:20.000 --> 00:42:28.000
We take that in a day to day with our families, you know, we take that into how We operate and manage ourselves.

00:42:28.000 --> 00:42:45.000
So facilitation is. A very necessary thing, but I think one of the things that's powerful about being a facilitator in the International Black Summit is that you learn to be conscious about your facilitation.

00:42:45.000 --> 00:42:46.000
You know, you really learn to.

00:42:46.000 --> 00:42:52.000
Yeah. And conscious about your life.

00:42:52.000 --> 00:42:53.000
Absolutely.

00:42:53.000 --> 00:42:59.000
Hmm, say that, yes. Yeah, very much so. Very much so. Yeah, it's a very powerful space.

00:42:59.000 --> 00:43:07.000
And it, grew me in so many ways, in terms of, you know, Who I am.

00:43:07.000 --> 00:43:10.000
I, it's, it's invaluable. I just, I love the same. I can't.

00:43:10.000 --> 00:43:12.000
Do, do you have any?

00:43:12.000 --> 00:43:13.000
Can't say that. And.

00:43:13.000 --> 00:43:20.000
Yeah, Let me just underline a little bit about the facilitation. So. Here at the International Black Summit.

00:43:20.000 --> 00:43:34.000
We'd listen the space. We'd listen. Powerfully. And so we use the time together to really get to the underlining pieces of What is stopping you?

00:43:34.000 --> 00:43:50.000
What is what is? Holding you back or what blindsiding you. And not allowing you to move forward because all of the distinctions and all of the things that we do.

00:43:50.000 --> 00:44:02.000
Are about you being present to your life being responsible and being able to move forward powerfully. Without, being held back.

00:44:02.000 --> 00:44:09.000
And, and so we've got different venues for that. So we've got the prerequisite, which is a 1 day program.

00:44:09.000 --> 00:44:22.000
We have the annual summit event, which is a 3 day. Reacts you start that Thursday we have a prerequisite on that Thursday and then we have an opening.

00:44:22.000 --> 00:44:38.000
Wherever the whole city is that night and then we have a full day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We also have the summit shares that you're in in attendance to on Sunday nights.

00:44:38.000 --> 00:44:45.000
We have the podcast series that we've been doing. We also have the care team. And we also, once you've

00:44:45.000 --> 00:44:48.000
Pair team being the community and regional events. Team. Yeah.

00:44:48.000 --> 00:45:06.000
Thank you. Yeah, thank you. And also, we also have a leadership body. That meets in fact Clara hosted one of those events in New Jersey which is where we meet in between the annual event.

00:45:06.000 --> 00:45:18.000
We plan out what there is to do and and clearer invited us to this one of the houses that she owned.

00:45:18.000 --> 00:45:45.000
And we were able to Be there and and had a retreat in the middle of New Jersey. For an entire weekend just fellow shipping and working together and loving up each other just you know Cooking together just having a whole bunch of fun and and so that's Those are some of the events.

00:45:45.000 --> 00:45:52.000
And and the kind of facilitation that takes place inside of the International Black Summit. Go ahead, yeah.

00:45:52.000 --> 00:45:53.000
20.

00:45:53.000 --> 00:45:59.000
Yeah, I'm just curious, Claire, you talked about facilitating the prerequisite.

00:45:59.000 --> 00:46:01.000
Hmm.

00:46:01.000 --> 00:46:09.000
So I have 2 questions. I have 2 questions going through my mind. One is asking you about facilitating the prerequisite.

00:46:09.000 --> 00:46:16.000
The other and the other. Let's start with the second question. Which is, are there any?

00:46:16.000 --> 00:46:31.000
Examples from your life of facilitating a specific event circumstance incident in your life using what you've learned and the tools that you have through the international Black Summit.

00:46:31.000 --> 00:46:42.000
Something that you facilitated in your life or in your community or in your family. Your business. And a specific example of how you facilitated that.

00:46:42.000 --> 00:46:45.000
Using the summit distinctions or tools.

00:46:45.000 --> 00:46:54.000
Hmm, okay. So. I'll use a very personal one.

00:46:54.000 --> 00:47:01.000
So one of one of the distinctions is trigger.

00:47:01.000 --> 00:47:07.000
Right. And trigger. Is.

00:47:07.000 --> 00:47:10.000
Which we use in a very specific way.

00:47:10.000 --> 00:47:20.000
Yes, it's It's it's it's something that you are unwilling or unconscious to be with about yourself, right?

00:47:20.000 --> 00:47:26.000
And. I had heard the term ghost.

00:47:26.000 --> 00:47:31.000
Right? But I'd never been ghosted until. I've been ghosted.

00:47:31.000 --> 00:47:34.000
And I was like.

00:47:34.000 --> 00:47:35.000
Okay. Yes.

00:47:35.000 --> 00:47:46.000
I think most did, right? This never happened to me before. And so I was triggered and I was I was trying to get to.

00:47:46.000 --> 00:48:03.000
What what was it about the experience that was. Causing this upset within me. So went to my creative side and I'm gonna share this poem with you guys.

00:48:03.000 --> 00:48:04.000
Okay.

00:48:04.000 --> 00:48:05.000
Yeah.

00:48:05.000 --> 00:48:12.000
And it's called access denied. Okay. Okay. Didn't realize that you were a locksmith.

00:48:12.000 --> 00:48:24.000
Secretly turning the tumblers of the lock on my inner emotions. Lock picks. Didn't realize the door open to a deeper place.

00:48:24.000 --> 00:48:33.000
A pass fueled with hurt. Insecurity and lack of trust. The mirror of you, your actions, your movements.

00:48:33.000 --> 00:48:45.000
The key to a dark place inside me kept locked down, now exposed. Alarms going off, blaring, pushing me to emotions of panic and anxiety.

00:48:45.000 --> 00:48:57.000
At first, st not understanding the source. Under further inspection, though. Realizing my safe was broken. The safe that protected my broken place.

00:48:57.000 --> 00:49:08.000
The place filled with memories wanting to be forgotten. 1st hurt, then anger. Then gratefulness for the exposure.

00:49:08.000 --> 00:49:19.000
Exposures of memories wanting to be forgotten. Memories wanting to be healed. To be transformed from their ugly broken place.

00:49:19.000 --> 00:49:29.000
Memories taking up space. Memories needing to be replaced with true love. Love of self, love of me.

00:49:29.000 --> 00:49:40.000
Now that I realized that you were that key. To that dark part of me. Until I heal that which was buried and forgotten.

00:49:40.000 --> 00:49:53.000
Until I transform. And get to my whole self. No key, longer able to be turned. No more memories wanting to be forgotten.

00:49:53.000 --> 00:50:05.000
Only memories transformed and healed. No longer under lie. For you or any key. Thanks for setting off the alarm.

00:50:05.000 --> 00:50:07.000
Anne.

00:50:07.000 --> 00:50:16.000
Until further notice, access is denied.

00:50:16.000 --> 00:50:17.000
That is, absolutely.

00:50:17.000 --> 00:50:23.000
Yeah. Oh my goodness, that's great. Applause! Or snaps, rather, snaps, it's poetry.

00:50:23.000 --> 00:50:32.000
Yes, so what I, you know, so like with triggers about. Really getting to see what it is that.

00:50:32.000 --> 00:50:42.000
It's giving you access to, you know, what place in yourself. And then once she gets there, what do you need to do to transform that space?

00:50:42.000 --> 00:50:51.000
So that it doesn't hurt anymore. You know, so it doesn't hurt anymore. So even if it's exposed.

00:50:51.000 --> 00:51:03.000
And that's why testimonies are great. Right? Cause you go through these tests. And then you know you're healed when you can talk about it when you can share it and it doesn't hurt anymore.

00:51:03.000 --> 00:51:07.000
It doesn't have any herd. It doesn't have the trigger. Like you can be with it.

00:51:07.000 --> 00:51:14.000
You can talk about it. And you've gotten past, you've gotten past it and that's.

00:51:14.000 --> 00:51:21.000
That's the transforming nature of the conversation. The summit and I would not have been able to get to that place of transformation.

00:51:21.000 --> 00:51:29.000
First, st realizing, what is it about this that's nagging me?

00:51:29.000 --> 00:51:34.000
And then able to see, you know, to look inside to say, hey, this is, this is what's bothering me.

00:51:34.000 --> 00:51:38.000
And this is why it's bothering me. And oh, okay. I know I need to do some work in that particular area.

00:51:38.000 --> 00:51:49.000
So I can, you know. Yeah, so it's really. A great.

00:51:49.000 --> 00:51:59.000
Place of self expiration. And then on the on the other side of it is

00:51:59.000 --> 00:52:06.000
I think in working with with people.

00:52:06.000 --> 00:52:18.000
It's always good to just be able to. Okay. See people. Through their purpose and through their vision.

00:52:18.000 --> 00:52:32.000
You know, and when I look at people. Post summit. You know, I'm looking at them through what is their purpose and what is their vision and how can I help them.

00:52:32.000 --> 00:52:36.000
With whatever their purpose is.

00:52:36.000 --> 00:52:37.000
You know, I.

00:52:37.000 --> 00:52:38.000
And that. Go ahead.

00:52:38.000 --> 00:52:50.000
Yeah, I just wanna come back to to trigger and what you also describe is So you identified the anger upset.

00:52:50.000 --> 00:53:02.000
You noticed it. You then, which is all another one of our distinctions to noticing and noticing is the ability to see yourself outside of yourself.

00:53:02.000 --> 00:53:03.000
In that.

00:53:03.000 --> 00:53:11.000
To identify. What you're saying, doing and how you're being. And then you tracked it.

00:53:11.000 --> 00:53:19.000
And you tracked it back to yourself. So that you can figure out what is that thing. Pointing to.

00:53:19.000 --> 00:53:32.000
So you tracked it to that emotion that hurt that place that was discovered or buried. And you brought it to the forefront.

00:53:32.000 --> 00:53:40.000
And, and then at that point in time you were able to transform it and create another conversation about that.

00:53:40.000 --> 00:53:49.000
Thing which had upset you originally so all of those things are part of how we the fuse.

00:53:49.000 --> 00:54:05.000
Triggers And so that trigger is a process that we use inside the International Black Summit. And Clara, you've defined it perfectly because at the end of it, it's always pointing to some commitment.

00:54:05.000 --> 00:54:24.000
That we have. Or that's not being fulfilled and we get the track it and and acknowledge it and then once we can do that then we can change that whole.

00:54:24.000 --> 00:54:25.000
Yeah.

00:54:25.000 --> 00:54:30.000
Energy that we bring to that particular conversation and certainly with people and things that that trigger.

00:54:30.000 --> 00:54:31.000
Yeah.

00:54:31.000 --> 00:54:35.000
You know, it It's. It's interesting because just looking at that process that you that you both just described you giving the example.

00:54:35.000 --> 00:54:53.000
Clara and then Glenn really talking about what that process is in the in the summit. And for me, just wanted to take why do we engage in those kinds of.

00:54:53.000 --> 00:55:03.000
Questions. Why do we have those distinctions in the summit? And, and it's You know, if you look at what's available through the summit, what we say is available through the summit.

00:55:03.000 --> 00:55:08.000
If you go to the website and you look at about us, it'll say have a section saying what's available through the summit.

00:55:08.000 --> 00:55:21.000
And one of the things we say is available. Is an exploration. Of questions and issues which empower participants to realize their vision for the black community and the world.

00:55:21.000 --> 00:55:31.000
And so what what you were just demonstrating. Was something that was getting in the way. Of you realizing your vision.

00:55:31.000 --> 00:55:32.000
Yes.

00:55:32.000 --> 00:55:44.000
For yourself, the black community, and the world. It was something that was a block or a barrier or a, you know, a burden, something that was a challenge interrupting that.

00:55:44.000 --> 00:55:57.000
And so that's part of what the summit, interrupting that. And so that's part of what the summit makes available is being able to for us to be able to engage in this conversation in a way that then gives us.

00:55:57.000 --> 00:56:05.000
Greater capacity to fulfill on our vision for the black community and the world for ourselves and our families, you know, all of that.

00:56:05.000 --> 00:56:08.000
And so it's not, it's not therapy. You know, so somebody might hear that conversation and think, yeah, you know, this is some kind of thing.

00:56:08.000 --> 00:56:18.000
No, it's not therapy. It is, it's a, it's an exploration.

00:56:18.000 --> 00:56:24.000
In order for us to be able to fulfill on our visions.

00:56:24.000 --> 00:56:25.000
Hmm.

00:56:25.000 --> 00:56:30.000
I like that word, interruption. Cause I think it's the interruptions in life that keep us from our purpose.

00:56:30.000 --> 00:56:41.000
It keeps us from. Doing the things that we're destined to do. And, and it could be as simple as, you know.

00:56:41.000 --> 00:56:52.000
Negative self-talk. The in the know out their conversation when people kept saying they list and they that and they they they they like.

00:56:52.000 --> 00:57:09.000
Whose day? And what are you doing? And you know what are you committed to you know for yourself you know to get to what you want for you and for your family and you know.

00:57:09.000 --> 00:57:23.000
Yeah, so I think the interruptions and people, the unconsciousness. You know, the unconsciousness if if If we can be more conscious and more intentional.

00:57:23.000 --> 00:57:33.000
If I can be more. Anxious and intentional. Then I can do more. I can get more done.

00:57:33.000 --> 00:57:35.000
Yeah.

00:57:35.000 --> 00:57:38.000
For sure.

00:57:38.000 --> 00:57:51.000
Absolutely. And for me, When I am, although this is your interview, I'm going to talk.

00:57:51.000 --> 00:57:52.000
Sure, please.

00:57:52.000 --> 00:58:01.000
For me and and it's 1 of the things that I love about the summit space. You know, we are in this interview with you, Clara.

00:58:01.000 --> 00:58:08.000
But the summit conversation is the summit conversation and it goes and it's it's an inclusive conversation.

00:58:08.000 --> 00:58:18.000
There's space for all of us. And their space for whatever is arising in the moment. And we give space and we allow for what's arising in the moment.

00:58:18.000 --> 00:58:30.000
And, and so as you were sharing that. And being using the tools in a way that enables you to be more productive because you're more conscious and you to be more productive because you're more conscious and intentional.

00:58:30.000 --> 00:58:39.000
And one of the things for me that I find is Yes, it may enable me to be more productive, but that's not always what I'm focusing on.

00:58:39.000 --> 00:58:47.000
I don't know.

00:58:47.000 --> 00:58:48.000
Yeah.

00:58:48.000 --> 00:58:58.000
And I don't even know that I would be fulfilled necessarily if it makes me more productive because that's not my personal Think but what it does for me being conscious as intentional is it it has me gain access to a greater level of peace.

00:58:58.000 --> 00:59:09.000
For me, a greater level of peace. A greater level of self-understanding, a greater capacity to just be.

00:59:09.000 --> 00:59:22.000
In life. Fully accepting of my deepest authenticity. And so that's what that level of intention and consciousness makes available for me.

00:59:22.000 --> 00:59:36.000
You know, so. So I appreciate this conversation and that it is a conversation. Because it really is steeped in the power of language.

00:59:36.000 --> 00:59:45.000
And the power of listening. And one of the things that I've gotten from the summit is listening people.

00:59:45.000 --> 00:59:59.000
Listening to their conversation listening to what comes out of people's mouths. Will clarify and tell you everything about why.

00:59:59.000 --> 01:00:09.000
Who they are? And why their life has been created the way it's being created. And if they want their life to be created differently?

01:00:09.000 --> 01:00:13.000
Then they will need to have some different conversations.

01:00:13.000 --> 01:00:14.000
The

01:00:14.000 --> 01:00:26.000
And, and so for me, I just, I, have a lot of appreciation for the value that that.

01:00:26.000 --> 01:00:27.000
Indeed.

01:00:27.000 --> 01:00:28.000
Provides myself and of others. So you left, you left a full time job and moved into real estate to become self employed.

01:00:28.000 --> 01:00:36.000
Do you want to talk about that a little bit?

01:00:36.000 --> 01:00:42.000
Sure. Yeah. I.

01:00:42.000 --> 01:00:46.000
Was that 20?

01:00:46.000 --> 01:00:54.000
No, that was 1996. Yeah, that was a while ago. And I haven't gotten back.

01:00:54.000 --> 01:01:00.000
That's the really crazy part. Yeah, 1996. And I started.

01:01:00.000 --> 01:01:14.000
In real estate then. And I had a couple of twists when I got married.

01:01:14.000 --> 01:01:18.000
Reloaded to another state. And for a while I was, I was going back and forth.

01:01:18.000 --> 01:01:28.000
Like I'd fly. To California. Stay for a month or so. Do business fly back.

01:01:28.000 --> 01:01:35.000
You know, and Edwin said, okay, you're stratling the fence. Where you gonna be?

01:01:35.000 --> 01:01:36.000
Mmm.

01:01:36.000 --> 01:01:43.000
What's going to? I was like, oh. Okay. So then I started focusing on building.

01:01:43.000 --> 01:01:51.000
My real estate business in New Jersey. But my thought at the time was I can make more money in California.

01:01:51.000 --> 01:02:00.000
Because the cost of homes are higher. Right. So. Do a couple of deals there to 10 deals that I'd have to do in New Jersey, right?

01:02:00.000 --> 01:02:16.000
So I was like, okay. So, you know, I started focusing on. Here and then was really in of the space of being a wife and being a mother.

01:02:16.000 --> 01:02:22.000
To a child that I did not bear out of my loins.

01:02:22.000 --> 01:02:34.000
And that was a whole nother experience. And. Yeah, and then having it transition.

01:02:34.000 --> 01:02:42.000
At such an unexpected time. I just. Didn't expect that, you know, at my mother in love is 99 this year.

01:02:42.000 --> 01:02:55.000
She'll be a hundred this year on her birthday his father lived to be. Was he 90 when he passed?

01:02:55.000 --> 01:03:00.000
He was older when he passed. I, I mean, like this man has long jeans. I expected him to outlive me.

01:03:00.000 --> 01:03:05.000
So. That set me back. For.

01:03:05.000 --> 01:03:22.000
A minute because I wasn't expecting. Him to pass and I kind of took myself off the grid for a while but during that time you know, I kept hearing him say, you know, you gotta keep going.

01:03:22.000 --> 01:03:28.000
You gotta do what you're gonna do. So I got my broker's license. In that time period.

01:03:28.000 --> 01:03:35.000
And things just started lining up. You know. The 1st company.

01:03:35.000 --> 01:03:46.000
That I was actually looking for a building and I went to a conference and I met this gentleman and You know, we talked and he had the building.

01:03:46.000 --> 01:03:47.000
Everything. The structure was always already set up. I hadn't thought about doing a franchise.

01:03:47.000 --> 01:03:57.000
But that's basically what it was. And went into that structure and saw I had responsibility for the entire state.

01:03:57.000 --> 01:04:05.000
So it came with agents, it came with everything was there, which was great because it was a good way to learn.

01:04:05.000 --> 01:04:20.000
And then I thought this is not why I became a broker. Like I had a very clear vision about what I wanted to do and how I wanted to practice and who I wanted to be and who I wanted to serve and how I wanted to serve them.

01:04:20.000 --> 01:04:31.000
And so I left that company and started my own company in 2,016. Which is lines for your realty and, It's been phenomenal.

01:04:31.000 --> 01:04:41.000
It's been great. I have a great team of agents who work with me. And we help people, you know, it's really about.

01:04:41.000 --> 01:04:53.000
Helping people within the communities that we serve and being an advocate for them. In moving to.

01:04:53.000 --> 01:05:01.000
The dream of homeownership and not just for having a house with 4 walls, but for wealth building and for people to understand.

01:05:01.000 --> 01:05:12.000
That property ownership is the way to build wealth. In the world. So you need to own a piece of dirt somewhere.

01:05:12.000 --> 01:05:21.000
Somewhere because the the value of that dirt over time is going to increase more than what you would make on your job.

01:05:21.000 --> 01:05:28.000
The only thing that rises higher than that is the stocks if you invest wisely, you know, and everybody doesn't have that skill.

01:05:28.000 --> 01:05:36.000
But how you know property doesn't require any particular skill other than You need to get a piece of dirt.

01:05:36.000 --> 01:05:46.000
With some property on it and let time happen and if you let time happen that property will appreciate in value and for those people who purchase pre-COVID.

01:05:46.000 --> 01:05:54.000
They experienced it in a short period of time. Like within 3 years, their property values have doubled and tripled in that time frame.

01:05:54.000 --> 01:06:03.000
So building wealth. It's really important. It's important in all communities, but it's especially important.

01:06:03.000 --> 01:06:12.000
In our community because we as people of color, we have at, at our fingertips.

01:06:12.000 --> 01:06:22.000
Trillions and trillions of dollars that we give away. And we give it away in things that are not tangible and that don't create legacy.

01:06:22.000 --> 01:06:29.000
Right. And so to have. A legacy that is sustainable. You need something that you can give to.

01:06:29.000 --> 01:06:47.000
The next generation. You can't give them. You know, your Jordans. You know, or your teams or your because you know the value of those things they stay for a period of time but you can't you know It doesn't have the the It doesn't generate the type of wealth that you would get through.

01:06:47.000 --> 01:07:00.000
Through real estate and so that's why real estate is so near and dear to my heart and I really want to convey that message to people.

01:07:00.000 --> 01:07:06.000
So I always tell people buy what you can afford. Don't even care if you don't want to live it.

01:07:06.000 --> 01:07:13.000
A particular neighborhood that they may be able to afford. Doesn't matter that someone, everyone is going to live somewhere.

01:07:13.000 --> 01:07:26.000
Someone is going to live in that property. So. Buy what you can afford and over time you can leverage that to get something else that may be more what you want.

01:07:26.000 --> 01:07:37.000
Where you gonna live or even an initially you may be able to afford to buy what? You know, in the neighborhood that you would like to be in, but by whatever you can afford and leverage that wealth over time.

01:07:37.000 --> 01:07:48.000
And it allows you to do things. I always think of homes as the bank. You know, because once she built equity and equity basically, she bought it here and now it's here.

01:07:48.000 --> 01:07:57.000
Or the value is here. But you only have this so that space in between is your equity. And you can use that equity over and over again.

01:07:57.000 --> 01:08:04.000
And as it keeps going up, you can continue to use that equity to do other things and you still have the space.

01:08:04.000 --> 01:08:18.000
Right. So it's a really. Helping people to see not only their financial wealth, but also their intellectual wealth, you know, I'm an avid reader.

01:08:18.000 --> 01:08:35.000
I'm an avid training person. I'm always taking classes, always learning new things. But those are the things that, I kind of focus on or have been focusing on in life and and educating other people.

01:08:35.000 --> 01:08:42.000
To. Have the necessary skills and get the information that they need so that they can build wealth as well.

01:08:42.000 --> 01:08:46.000
Yeah.

01:08:46.000 --> 01:08:47.000
Yes.

01:08:47.000 --> 01:08:51.000
Thank you for that. Clara. I have a question. Because in that you said at 1 point that you had a clear vision.

01:08:51.000 --> 01:08:56.000
So you were working in a particular context and you said this was great to learn, but it wasn't.

01:08:56.000 --> 01:09:07.000
Fulfilling on the clear vision that you had. And so my question for you is can you talk a little bit about the distinction and process that we call clearing?

01:09:07.000 --> 01:09:18.000
In the International Black Summit. The process and distinction clearing and using that. To get clear on your vision so that you can fulfill on it.

01:09:18.000 --> 01:09:32.000
Yeah, clearing is when I take an opportunity to look at what I'm doing. And to see if it's in alignment with what I really want.

01:09:32.000 --> 01:09:43.000
And so. If I am. In a situation that is not bringing me joy.

01:09:43.000 --> 01:09:52.000
1st for me, I have to identify what is it that brings me joy. Right. So. When I was working for.

01:09:52.000 --> 01:10:01.000
Someone else in real estate and when I was working inside of the franchise. In real estate.

01:10:01.000 --> 01:10:06.000
My values. And what I want it for me weren't being addressed. So what did I identify?

01:10:06.000 --> 01:10:20.000
I identified. I like the freedom to do things the way I like to do that. So when you get into a corporate structure, you follow the corporate structure.

01:10:20.000 --> 01:10:31.000
So if you work for McDonald's, there is a manual. There is the McDonald's way, there is the McDonald's hat, there's the M almost uniform, you know, there is Everything that says McDonald's.

01:10:31.000 --> 01:10:38.000
Well, my brand is Lions View. So Lions view has a particular brand. That's my vision, you know.

01:10:38.000 --> 01:10:46.000
It's I call it the Lions view lifestyle, right? So, Lance, your lifestyle is when you look at what's available.

01:10:46.000 --> 01:10:54.000
And the potential for your life, you know, whether that's financially, whether intellectually, spiritually, food, whatever.

01:10:54.000 --> 01:11:04.000
And you see the possibility. And you go for what is the best thing for you. Right? You can see it.

01:11:04.000 --> 01:11:12.000
No.

01:11:12.000 --> 01:11:13.000
Yeah.

01:11:13.000 --> 01:11:16.000
It's a lion's view. That's the name of the company. You know how it sits at the top of the mountain although my name is felt with the Y but the lion is the king of the jungle and it sits at the top of the mountain and it overlooks the kingdom, right?

01:11:16.000 --> 01:11:17.000
But it's the lion's kingdom. So your kingdom could be whatever you imagine it to be.

01:11:17.000 --> 01:11:23.000
Okay.

01:11:23.000 --> 01:11:24.000
Hmm.

01:11:24.000 --> 01:11:29.000
It's your view. Right? Your lifestyle and you get to have it. And so that's my vision for my company.

01:11:29.000 --> 01:11:34.000
You know, that's the vision for my science. I want to give you what you want, right?

01:11:34.000 --> 01:11:35.000
Hmm

01:11:35.000 --> 01:11:44.000
Whatever. Whatever's in your view, you know, whatever you can dream. However big you can dream I want to help you get to that to that place.

01:11:44.000 --> 01:11:54.000
Yeah. So in and clearing myself for me. First, st I gotta be clear on what it is that I want for me and realize that this ain't that.

01:11:54.000 --> 01:12:01.000
Because when this ain't that there's upset there's you know There's confusion, there's.

01:12:01.000 --> 01:12:08.000
All kinds of different emotions that say I am out of alignment. I want to be here, but I'm here.

01:12:08.000 --> 01:12:14.000
So what is it that I need to do to get to here? And what is it that's interrupting?

01:12:14.000 --> 01:12:21.000
Or getting in the way. Of me getting here. And as I move things out of the way. I'm like, oh, I did this.

01:12:21.000 --> 01:12:25.000
Well, that didn't do it. Clear that out of the way. I did this, that didn't do it.

01:12:25.000 --> 01:12:37.000
Clear that out of the way. Dip this that into it, clear that out of the way or it may just be a conversation, you know, and as I keep clearing things, I'm getting closer and closer to being in alignment with my vision.

01:12:37.000 --> 01:12:39.000
And then I can forward. Yeah.

01:12:39.000 --> 01:12:47.000
Very nice. Very nice. I might do this international black summit thing. That sounds

01:12:47.000 --> 01:12:49.000
Yeah.

01:12:49.000 --> 01:12:51.000
Indeed.

01:12:51.000 --> 01:13:01.000
What would you say to someone? Who? Is kind of interested but not sure about the international blacks.

01:13:01.000 --> 01:13:08.000
I mean what would you say to them to to have them get what's available?

01:13:08.000 --> 01:13:16.000
Hmm. I would say. If you

01:13:16.000 --> 01:13:20.000
If you are

01:13:20.000 --> 01:13:36.000
Really honest with yourself. That you want to. Realize your purpose in life. Then this is a space that you want to check out.

01:13:36.000 --> 01:13:50.000
Because inside of the space. You'll get some tools. That will help you. To

01:13:50.000 --> 01:14:04.000
Deal with the interruptions in a way that's productive and also that will help you too eliminate the things that are blocking you.

01:14:04.000 --> 01:14:20.000
From moving forward. And it'll also if you're very, if you're already very intentional about who you are and and what you're up to, it'll put you in a community of people.

01:14:20.000 --> 01:14:29.000
Who are doing some really phenomenal things. You know, it will expand your worldview, you know, your personal view.

01:14:29.000 --> 01:14:36.000
So if your world is like this. It'll make your world like this. You know, it'll expand your worldview.

01:14:36.000 --> 01:14:40.000
As well, if those are things that.

01:14:40.000 --> 01:14:47.000
You know, speak to you, then it's the place for you. Yeah. It's a great place for you.

01:14:47.000 --> 01:14:49.000
Great, thank you.

01:14:49.000 --> 01:14:50.000
You want

01:14:50.000 --> 01:15:03.000
Thank you. Clara. So, I want to go back to the question that I had asked, but didn't have you answer and then I think we can possibly go to the last question of the.

01:15:03.000 --> 01:15:04.000
Okay.

01:15:04.000 --> 01:15:13.000
Section depending on what depending on what Glenn thinks. So. I had asked you about facilitating the prerequisite.

01:15:13.000 --> 01:15:14.000
Hmm.

01:15:14.000 --> 01:15:21.000
You know, and what's what was your experience doing that and what do you see available? We have prerequisite coming up on June, the 20 second, 2024.

01:15:21.000 --> 01:15:33.000
And And so what do you see when you when you talk about facilitating the prerequisite what's available by participating in the prerequisite, all of that.

01:15:33.000 --> 01:15:34.000
Wow. The prerequisite is a, it's kind of a taste of the summit.

01:15:34.000 --> 01:15:50.000
It introduces you to the distinctions of the summit and so you get the language because it's all it's a whole new language when you enter the room.

01:15:50.000 --> 01:15:57.000
And so the prerequisite will introduce you to the distinctions in a way that when you get into.

01:15:57.000 --> 01:16:09.000
The annual event. You'll be more comfortable. And you will have you've had an opportunity to put those distinctions into practice.

01:16:09.000 --> 01:16:16.000
Before you get into the room. Yeah.

01:16:16.000 --> 01:16:19.000
That's it. That's it in a nutshell. Yeah.

01:16:19.000 --> 01:16:21.000
Yes.

01:16:21.000 --> 01:16:22.000
Yeah.

01:16:22.000 --> 01:16:25.000
Thank you. In a nutshell, in a nutshell. Thank you. Blynn, do you have any questions before we go to the last one?

01:16:25.000 --> 01:16:29.000
No, I think, I think let's go to the last one. Let's go to the last one.

01:16:29.000 --> 01:16:33.000
Okay, last question, Clara.

01:16:33.000 --> 01:16:35.000
Yes.

01:16:35.000 --> 01:16:43.000
1st of all, before I, one other thing I wanted to say, I always appreciated. U and Edwin.

01:16:43.000 --> 01:17:01.000
As a couple in the summit. You know, his nickname being Black Love. And you as a couple being a demonstration of black love having met through the international black something and then having a presence in the International Black Summit as one of the because you guys aren't the only ones who came up.

01:17:01.000 --> 01:17:08.000
Not the only couple. The summit. But you know, being a demonstration of black love in the International Black Summit, I always appreciated you guys for that.

01:17:08.000 --> 01:17:14.000
So thank you for that.

01:17:14.000 --> 01:17:20.000
Thank you. And it's taken me a while to. To.

01:17:20.000 --> 01:17:26.000
Move on in life. So I'm finally at a space where I am open to a new relationship.

01:17:26.000 --> 01:17:32.000
So if there is a new black love out there, I'm here. I'm waiting and I'm ready.

01:17:32.000 --> 01:17:33.000
Okay.

01:17:33.000 --> 01:17:34.000
Oh. Nice.

01:17:34.000 --> 01:17:40.000
Yeah, wait for him to find me. Yeah. Okay.

01:17:40.000 --> 01:17:42.000
So the last question, Clara.

01:17:42.000 --> 01:17:43.000
Yes.

01:17:43.000 --> 01:17:48.000
What are 3 wishes that you have for the world right now?

01:17:48.000 --> 01:17:54.000
That's a good question.

01:17:54.000 --> 01:18:09.000
Oh, I think one wish would be for everyone to

01:18:09.000 --> 01:18:16.000
Take on. Take responsibility.

01:18:16.000 --> 01:18:21.000
And when I say that,

01:18:21.000 --> 01:18:30.000
It's inside of that know out their conversation. I think we're responsible for where we are and what we've got.

01:18:30.000 --> 01:18:36.000
And I think that if each of us takes responsibility for the things that we want to see happen. More things would shift.

01:18:36.000 --> 01:18:47.000
More things would move forward. So my wish is that everyone. Take responsibility and whatever their purpose is.

01:18:47.000 --> 01:18:58.000
Right. Whatever that looks like for. For each of us that we. Step fully into it.

01:18:58.000 --> 01:18:59.000
Hmm.

01:18:59.000 --> 01:19:03.000
And, and that would shift the world. And that, that really stands inside the declaration. If, you know, each of us.

01:19:03.000 --> 01:19:07.000
Just does our part. The world will shift. Right.

01:19:07.000 --> 01:19:22.000
So that's 1 wish. The other wish I have is Kind of the flip dark side of that so the dark side of that would be it, I wish that people would.

01:19:22.000 --> 01:19:30.000
Experience if they could experience. The harm that they put on other people, then I don't think people would do it.

01:19:30.000 --> 01:19:31.000
Mmm, interesting.

01:19:31.000 --> 01:19:32.000
Hmm.

01:19:32.000 --> 01:19:41.000
So if If I go to shoot you. And instead the The bullet hits me. I would not be so apt.

01:19:41.000 --> 01:19:45.000
To shoot you because I know that you're not gonna get the harm it's gonna come to me.

01:19:45.000 --> 01:19:55.000
So it's it's a dark twist on. Responsibility, but I just want people to be conscious of the impact on.

01:19:55.000 --> 01:20:04.000
On what they do. To not only to themselves. But to the people around them and to the environment into the world.

01:20:04.000 --> 01:20:05.000
Hmm.

01:20:05.000 --> 01:20:06.000
Clear.

01:20:06.000 --> 01:20:19.000
And then the 3rd thing I'd wish.

01:20:19.000 --> 01:20:20.000
Hmm.

01:20:20.000 --> 01:20:24.000
I just wish that more people could experience joy and happiness authentically. Like it's not, it doesn't have to be a really deep thing.

01:20:24.000 --> 01:20:34.000
Like nobody can give it to you. It's just something that. You know, wake up in the morning, you're breathing, that's just joy and happiness, like.

01:20:34.000 --> 01:20:46.000
Just that more people can experience. True. Joy and happiness that they feel it for themselves, you know, just like the world's okay with me.

01:20:46.000 --> 01:20:51.000
Today is okay. It's a good day. I'm alive, I'm breathing. It's a good day.

01:20:51.000 --> 01:20:55.000
What is it that I'm supposed to be doing today? Yeah.

01:20:55.000 --> 01:21:24.000
For a Clara Lines Devon. It has been such a pleasure to have you here. To Kind of like break bread again, you know just to really reengage and, a real opportunity to discover some things that I didn't know about, even I've known you all these years, but for both of us really.

01:21:24.000 --> 01:21:37.000
And to really acknowledge you for the work that you're doing out in the world. Having people's lives transform, having them see.

01:21:37.000 --> 01:21:46.000
A vision for themselves that they may not, you know, may not see by themselves. So you encourage them, support them.

01:21:46.000 --> 01:21:59.000
And expand their looking such that they can actually see some things available to them and I think that that's such a noble thing to be able to do in the world.

01:21:59.000 --> 01:22:07.000
To support other people and And the other part is just that, you know, the love that you are for people.

01:22:07.000 --> 01:22:26.000
You know, you have so much, you just you know, basket full of love and just giving it out and you know I've always loved that about you and you know I just really want to thank you for being part of this conversation called the International Black Summit.

01:22:26.000 --> 01:22:39.000
And being a partner of mine all these years inside of this conversation. And just a just a brilliant brilliant person that that is in love with life.

01:22:39.000 --> 01:22:42.000
Okay.

01:22:42.000 --> 01:22:43.000
Okay.

01:22:43.000 --> 01:22:47.000
You know, so thank you. Jackie Grace?

01:22:47.000 --> 01:22:54.000
Dido.

01:22:54.000 --> 01:23:02.000
Thank you so much so much for being here, Clara. And honestly, we haven't seen each other in years and you look exactly the same.

01:23:02.000 --> 01:23:09.000

01:23:09.000 --> 01:23:10.000

01:23:10.000 --> 01:23:12.000
Yeah. I'm like, this is some serious black don't crack. I, you look fantastic.
